The 30th running of the Irish St Leger was held on Saturday 23rd September 1944 over 1 mile 6 furlongs of The Curragh. The winner was owned by Mr M S Carroll, trained by Charles Rogers and ridden by Joe Canty. A purse of £800 allowed for the second to receive 50 sovereigns and the third 25 sovereigns. The winner won by a length, with 8 lengths between second and third.

Brave Boy and Lancer were unplaced in the Irish 2000 Guineas behind dead-heaters Slide On (SR 1928) and Good Morning (SR 1908). Fairdue was fourth in the Irish 1000 Guineas behind Annetta (SR 1777).
